** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sutton Lake’s surface water temperatures follow a typical inland reservoir pattern, cooling through late fall and winter and warming in spring and summer. In winter the lake often sits around the mid-30s to mid-40s °F (about 2–7 °C), with ice possible in sheltered bays during particularly cold spells. Spring brings a steady rise, commonly into the mid-40s to mid-60s °F (7–18 °C) as air temperatures moderate and inflows warm. By summer the lake regularly reaches the upper 60s to around 80 °F (21–27 °C), and on hot, calm days shallow areas can briefly climb into the low 80s °F (≈28 °C). Temperatures typically fall again in autumn, passing back through the 50s–60s °F (10–18 °C) before winter cooling.
Swimming in Sutton Lake is practicable in the warmer months when surface temperatures are comfortable for recreation, and people commonly enter the water in summer. Whether swimming is officially allowed can depend on local regulations, seasons, and specific sites around the reservoir: safety considerations such as boat traffic, variable depths, submerged hazards and the absence of lifeguards make some areas unsuitable. Water-quality advisories or temporary restrictions may be issued at times, so swimmers are advised to choose designated recreation areas where available and to follow posted rules and safety guidance.
