** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bluestone Lake’s surface water temperatures vary substantially through the year and with depth. In spring (March–May) surface readings commonly range from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as warming progresses after winter. Peak summer surface temperatures (June–August) will often be in the low to upper 70s°F, roughly 21–27°C, and on warm, calm days may approach the low 80s°F (about 28°C) in shallow bays. Fall cooling (September–November) typically brings surface values back into the 50–70°F range (10–21°C). In winter the lake surface can be near freezing to the low 40s°F, approximately 0–5°C, with much colder temperatures in deeper water due to stratification. These are general seasonal ranges and actual conditions shift with weather, inflows, and water level.
Swimming at Bluestone is possible but generally limited to designated and managed areas rather than unrestricted shorelines. The reservoir has steep banks, variable water levels, submerged hazards and active boat traffic in many zones, so broad open-water swimming on the main lake is often discouraged and some sites are regulated by park or Corps authorities. State park beaches and marked recreation areas are where swimming is typically allowed when staffed or posted open, because they offer safer, monitored access and clearer separation from boat channels and underwater hazards.
