** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Spinney Mountain Reservoir is a high-elevation impoundment, so its water stays quite cool year-round. Surface temperatures typically sit near freezing (about 32°F / 0°C) under ice in winter. During spring and the snowmelt period the reservoir often remains cold, roughly 34–50°F (1–10°C). In the warmest part of summer surface readings can rise to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) on sunny afternoons, though deeper water remains substantially colder. Early fall sees a gradual cooling back toward the 40–55°F (4–13°C) range. These figures are approximate and can fluctuate with air temperature, wind, inflows, and depth; small, shallow pockets warm more quickly than the main body of the reservoir.
Swimming at Spinney Mountain is possible in the literal sense, but it is neither common nor widely encouraged because of safety and comfort concerns. The cold water temperatures, sudden drop-offs, and boat traffic make prolonged immersion risky; cold shock and hypothermia are real hazards even on warm days. There are no extensive developed beaches or lifeguarded areas, so visitors who choose to enter the water should exercise caution, limit time in the water, wear a personal flotation device, and be mindful of changing weather and water conditions.
