** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Blunn Reservoir’s water temperature depends heavily on its elevation, depth and the season. In spring the surface usually runs cold as snowmelt and runoff cool the basin, commonly about 35–55°F (2–13°C). Summer brings the warmest surface readings; shallow areas can warm to roughly 60–75°F (16–24°C) on sunny, calm days while deeper water stays cooler. By autumn, temperatures begin falling again into the 40–60°F (4–16°C) range as air temperatures drop and mixing increases. In winter, standing water may approach freezing and many Colorado reservoirs develop ice cover, with water temperatures at or near 32°F (0°C) at the surface while slightly warmer a few feet below.
Whether swimming is allowed at Blunn Reservoir is governed by local management and water-use rules rather than by temperature alone. Some reservoirs permit recreational swimming in summer when surface temperatures are more comfortable, but others prohibit swimming to protect drinking‑water supplies, aquatic habitat or for public-safety reasons such as steep drop-offs and cold-water shock. Even where permitted, there are safety considerations: cold surface or subsurface temperatures can cause hypothermia or muscle impairment, and lifeguards are typically not provided. Visitors should confirm current local regulations and advisories before entering the water.
