** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Turquoise Lake, a high-elevation reservoir near Leadville, Colorado, stays quite cold for much of the year. During peak summer months the surface temperature commonly ranges from about 50–65°F (10–18°C), with the warmest shallow bays occasionally reaching the upper end of that span on hot, calm afternoons. In spring and fall the lake is considerably cooler, often between roughly 35–50°F (2–10°C) as snowmelt and cool air keep temperatures down. In winter the water is at or near freezing and the lake typically freezes over; surface conditions will be around 32°F (0°C) with colder air temperatures and ice cover dominating the scene.
Swimming at Turquoise Lake is possible, but it comes with caveats. There are no extensive lifeguarded swim beaches, and motorized boat traffic, steep drop-offs, and the persistently low water temperatures make prolonged immersion risky; cold water can rapidly lead to shock and hypothermia even in summer. Many visitors choose brief dips or use wetsuits and stay close to shore, while others stick to shore-side recreation. If you plan to enter the water, be cautious about weather, wear appropriate protection, stay within sight of others, and follow any posted regulations and warnings from local authorities.
