** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Elevenmile Canyon Reservoir, at high elevation in central Colorado, stays relatively cold for much of the year. Typical surface temperatures vary by season: in winter the lake is often near freezing and can be ice-covered, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring thaw usually keeps surface waters cool, around 35–55°F (2–13°C). During summer, surface temperatures warm the most, commonly ranging from about 55–75°F (13–24°C) on warm days but often remaining on the cooler side compared with lowland lakes. In fall the water cools again, typically falling into a 40–60°F (4–15°C) window. Temperatures can change quickly with weather and depth; deeper water remains much colder year-round.
Swimming is generally permitted in the reservoir, and people do enter the water in summer, but it is not a lifeguarded, heated, or otherwise managed swimming facility. Because the lake is deep, can have steep drop-offs, sudden cold-water layers, and boat traffic from fishing and recreation, swimmers face risks such as cold-water shock and limited visibility. In winter the ice cover precludes swimming and in spring ice-out conditions can be hazardous. Visitors are advised to treat summer swims as recreational and potentially risky, use flotation, stay near shore, and be aware that official supervision or rescue services may be limited.
