** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Quincy Reservoir is a relatively small Colorado impoundment whose water temperatures follow a typical mountain-reservoir pattern, influenced by elevation, depth and local weather. In winter the surface commonly approaches freezing, about 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring sees a steady warm-up with surface ranges roughly 38–55°F (3–13°C) as snowmelt and cool nights moderate warming. Peak summer surface temperatures often reach about 60–72°F (16–22°C) on warm afternoons, though deeper water remains noticeably colder below the thermocline. In autumn the surface generally cools back toward roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C). These are approximate seasonal bands; short-term conditions can vary with recent air temperatures, inflows and wind-driven mixing.
Swimming at Quincy Reservoir is generally possible during the warmer months when surface temperatures are highest, and visitors do swim there for recreation. However, because water can remain cold even in summer, swimmers should be cautious about cold-water shock and fatigue. Many reservoir sites have no lifeguards, variable access, sudden drop-offs and boat traffic, and some reservoirs impose seasonal or permanent restrictions for water-supply or habitat protection. For safety and compliance, check posted rules at the site and be prepared for chilly water and basic wilderness safety conditions.
