Aurora Reservoir’s surface water temperatures vary widely through the year because of Colorado’s seasonal swings and the reservoir’s depth. In winter the surface often sits near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring warming raises surface readings into the 40s and 50s Fahrenheit, about 4–16°C, though cool spells can persist. Peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach the mid-60s to mid-70s F, approximately 18–24°C, especially on sunny, calm days. In early fall the surface typically cools back into the 50s–60s F (10–18°C). Deeper water remains colder than the surface year-round, so suit choice and exposure time are important considerations.
Swimming at Aurora Reservoir is permitted but generally confined to designated swim areas during the staffed swim season for safety and water‑quality monitoring.
