Antero Reservoir sits at high elevation in central Colorado, so its water stays cold much of the year. Typical seasonal surface temperatures are roughly: winter—around freezing (32°F / 0°C) with ice common; spring and fall—about 33–50°F (1–10°C) as melt and cooling dominate; and summer—usually the warmest period with surface readings commonly in the 50–60°F range (10–16°C), occasionally reaching the mid‑60s°F (around 18°C) on unusually warm days. Deeper water remains substantially colder year‑round, and sudden weather shifts at altitude can rapidly cool the surface.
Swimming is physically possible but there are no formal swim facilities or lifeguards at Antero Reservoir, and the cold temperatures make extended recreational swimming inadvisable.
