*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
South Watuppa Pond typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of New England inland waters. In spring the surface temperatures generally range from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake cools off or warms up after ice-out. By summer, surface readings commonly reach roughly 65–82°F (18–28°C) on warm afternoons, though shallow bays warm faster and can be several degrees warmer than open water. In fall the surface cools back into the 50–65°F (10–18°C) range, and in winter the pond often approaches freezing with water near 32–40°F (0–4°C) and occasional ice cover. Deeper water remains substantially colder year-round, so a swimmer entering beyond the warm surface layer will encounter much lower temperatures.
Swimming is possible in warm months and people do use the pond for recreation, but permissibility and safety depend on local rules and conditions. Some shorelines and beaches are open to the public, while other areas may be private or subject to municipal restrictions; water-quality advisories for algae or bacteria can temporarily close parts of the pond. Cold, deeper water also raises hypothermia risk even on warm days, and seasonal algal blooms or boat traffic affect safety. For current guidance it’s best to follow town or health-department notices and posted signage before swimming.
