*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mashpee Pond, part of the Mashpee–Wakeby system on Cape Cod, experiences a typical New England seasonal cycle of surface temperatures. In spring (April–May) water usually warms from roughly the low 40s to around 60°F (4–16°C) as air temperatures rise. Peak summer surface temperatures (June–August) commonly range from about 68 to 78°F (20–26°C), with sheltered shallow areas warming a bit higher on hot, calm days. By early fall (September–October) the pond cools back into the mid‑50s to low 70s°F (13–22°C). In winter the surface approaches freezing and often drops to the low 30s–mid 30s°F (0–2°C), with ice forming in colder spells.
Swimming is generally permitted in Mashpee Pond at designated public access points and beaches maintained by the town or state, and many people swim there in summer because temperatures are comfortable for recreational use. Access, however, can be limited by private shorelines and by temporary health advisories: algal blooms or elevated bacterial counts have prompted closures on Cape Cod in some years. Cold‑water immersion in spring or winter carries risks such as cold shock and is not recommended for casual swimmers. Visitors should follow posted signs and local health notices and use lifeguarded, managed beaches when available.
