** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Pachaug Pond, nestled in southeastern Connecticut’s forested landscape, experiences a wide range of water temperatures through the year. In winter the surface commonly sits near freezing, roughly 32–39°F (0–4°C), and may ice over. Spring warming brings temperatures up to about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake mixes. Peak summer conditions often produce the warmest surface waters, typically in the range of 68–82°F (20–28°C) and occasionally higher in very hot, calm spells; deeper, shaded areas remain cooler. During fall the water gradually cools to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures decline and stratification breaks down. Local conditions such as depth, wind, shading and recent weather will affect readings from one part of the pond to another.
Swimming in Pachaug Pond is possible and commonly practiced in suitable spots, but it is not uniformly managed like a public lifeguarded beach. Access and permissibility depend on landownership and posted rules, and there may be no lifeguards, formal changing facilities or regular water-quality monitoring at many access points. Seasonal hazards include cold-water shock outside summer months, submerged vegetation, boat traffic and occasional algal blooms, so swimmers should follow local advisories, use caution, and prefer supervised or clearly designated swimming areas when available.
