** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Assawompset Pond, often called Lake Assawompset in southeastern Massachusetts, experiences the typical New England seasonal cycle in water temperature. In spring the surface usually warms from about 45–60°F (7–16°C) as ice melts and stratification begins. Summer surface temperatures commonly reach roughly 65–78°F (18–26°C) on warm, sunny days, with deeper waters remaining noticeably cooler. Autumn cooling brings surface readings back toward 50–65°F (10–18°C) before winter sets in; during the coldest months the pond’s surface can approach freezing, generally around 32–39°F (0–4°C) where ice forms. Exact temperatures vary by depth, weather, and location around the basin, so local spots and sheltered coves can be a few degrees different from open-water measurements.
Swimming opportunities are limited largely because Assawompset is part of a managed watershed and is closely tied to regional water supply and conservation concerns. For that reason, large portions of the shoreline and access points are owned or regulated by municipal authorities, and unrestricted public swimming is generally not permitted to protect drinking water quality and for safety reasons such as cold, deep water and boating activity. Private properties and designated areas may allow recreational use under specific rules, so permission from local authorities or landowners is needed before planning to swim.
