*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Clinton Reservoir’s surface water follows the seasonal rhythm typical of mid-Atlantic reservoirs. During winter months surface temperatures commonly hover near freezing, about 32–40°F (0–4°C). In spring the water warms into the 40–60°F range (4–16°C) as runoff and air temperatures rise. Peak summer surface temperatures often reach roughly 65–75°F (18–24°C), though deeper layers remain substantially cooler because of thermal stratification. By fall the surface cools back into the 50–65°F range (10–18°C) as air temperatures descend and the lake mixes.
Swimming at Clinton Reservoir is generally not allowed because the impoundment functions as part of the regional water supply and public-health and safety rules restrict direct human contact to protect source-water quality. In addition, reservoir conditions—sudden drop-offs, cold deeper water and limited lifeguard cover—create safety hazards that lead managers to prohibit open swimming. Recreational use and specific permitted activities vary by agency, so contact the managing authority for current rules, permitted uses and any seasonal exceptions.
