** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Shenango River Lake, a reservoir in western Pennsylvania managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, experiences the seasonal temperature swings typical of inland Mid‑Atlantic lakes. Surface temperatures in summer commonly range from roughly 70–85°F (21–29°C) on warm afternoons, making the water comfortable for many swimmers. In late spring and early fall the surface usually sits between about 45–65°F (7–18°C), which can feel brisk to cold depending on air temperature and recent weather. During winter the lake often approaches freezing, with surface temperatures near 32–40°F (0–4°C) and periods of ice cover at colder times, so open‑water swimming is unlikely or unsafe then.
Swimming is allowed in designated recreational areas at Shenango River Lake during the warmer months, principally because summer surface temperatures often reach levels suitable for bathing and the Corps provides day‑use facilities. However, there are typically no lifeguards on duty, and conditions can change quickly: cooler deep water, boat traffic, sudden weather shifts and occasional water‑quality advisories (including algae) mean swimmers should use caution. Visitors are advised to swim only where marked, supervise children closely, wear personal flotation devices if needed, and check current local guidance before entering the water.
