*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mosquito Creek Lake in northeastern Ohio experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in surface water temperature. In winter months the surface commonly approaches freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and portions of the lake can develop ice cover. Spring brings a steady rise, with surface temperatures typically in the 40–60°F range (4–16°C) as the lake mixes and warms. By summer the upper layers often reach their warmest, most recreationally comfortable levels, frequently between about 70–80°F (21–27°C) and occasionally higher during heat waves. In autumn the water cools again, generally falling to the 50–65°F band (10–18°C) before winter sets in. Deeper water stays colder year-round, and thermal stratification in summer means surface readings will be noticeably warmer than bottom temperatures.
Swimming at Mosquito Creek Lake is possible but governed by local rules and safety considerations. Some areas are used for swimming during the warmer months because surface temperatures are conducive to recreation, yet the lake also accommodates boating and fishing and can present hazards such as boat traffic, sudden drop-offs, cold-water layers, and variable water quality. Because lifeguards are not consistently present and conditions change with weather and runoff, swimming is typically allowed only where posted or at visitors’ own risk, and advisories or temporary restrictions may be issued for safety or water-quality reasons.
