** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Berlin Lake in northeastern Ohio shows the typical seasonal thermal pattern of a mid-latitude reservoir. In spring the surface usually runs from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the water cools from runoff and melt; by summer surface temperatures commonly reach 68–80°F (20–27°C) on warm days, with occasional patches warmer in calm, sunny weather. In early fall the lake cools back into the 50–70°F (10–21°C) range, and in winter the surface approaches freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), with ice forming in sustained cold spells. Like many reservoirs, Berlin Lake stratifies in summer, so deeper water remains substantially colder than the surface and sudden immersion can produce cold-shock effects.
Swimming opportunities exist at Berlin Lake because it is a public recreational reservoir, and people commonly swim from shore in parks and at quiet coves. However, there are few lifeguarded beaches, and access, facilities and rules vary by shoreline owner; boating traffic, submerged hazards and variable water quality or occasional algae blooms make swimming largely an at-your-own-risk activity. In winter, ice cover normally prevents safe swimming. Visitors should check local park guidance and current advisories before entering the water and be mindful of temperature differences between surface and deeper zones.
