*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Shaver Lake is a high-elevation Sierra Nevada reservoir whose surface temperatures vary noticeably with the seasons. In spring (roughly March through May) the water is usually quite cold, often in the 40–55°F range (about 4–13°C) as snowmelt and cool air dominate. Summer months (June through September) bring the warmest surface readings, commonly around 60–75°F (16–24°C) on sunny days at shallow locations, while deeper water remains colder. In fall the surface cools back to roughly 50–60°F (10–16°C), and winter temperatures can drop to the mid‑30s to mid‑40s °F (around 2–7°C), depending on weather and lake stratification.
Swimming is generally permitted at Shaver Lake and many visitors do swim in designated recreation areas and from shore, but conditions and posted rules should be followed. Because the lake is a working reservoir with fluctuating levels, boat traffic, submerged hazards, and cold, rapidly changing water temperatures—especially early in the season—there are safety concerns; hypothermia can occur even on warm days if swimmers enter cold water or spend long periods submerged. Lifeguards are not always present, so swimmers are advised to use common-sense precautions, heed signage, and choose protected swim areas.
