*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Pine Flat Lake, a reservoir on the Kings River in California’s Sierra foothills, experiences noticeable seasonal swings in surface water temperature. In winter months surface temperatures commonly fall into the mid-40s to low-50s °F (about 7–12 °C). Spring brings a gradual rise, with surface readings typically in the 50s to mid-60s °F (10–18 °C). During the warmest part of summer the shallow, sun-warmed areas often reach the low to mid-70s °F and can occasionally climb into the low 80s °F (about 21–28 °C), while autumn sees a steady cooling back into the 60s °F (15–20 °C) range. Deeper or shaded parts of the lake remain cooler year-round, and sudden drops in temperature can occur near the dam release areas.
Swimming at Pine Flat Lake is generally allowed as part of the recreational use of the reservoir, but there are no widespread lifeguarded beaches and conditions change with water levels and dam operations, so swimmers do so at their own risk. Boat traffic, submerged hazards, sudden depth changes and cold-water exposure in non-summer months are the main safety concerns. Visitors are advised to heed posted signs, avoid high-traffic boating zones, wear flotation if uncertain of conditions, and be aware that even warm summer surface temperatures can be colder below the surface.
