*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sechelt Inlet, located on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, is a long, narrow fjord extending inland from the Strait of Georgia. Its water temperature is strongly influenced by tidal exchange with the Pacific Ocean and by the surrounding coastal climate. In early spring, the inlet remains quite cold, typically ranging between 43–48°F (6–9°C) as snowmelt and rainfall feed the system. By late May and June, surface temperatures begin to rise, reaching about 52–59°F (11–15°C). The warmest period occurs during July and August, when shallow, sheltered bays along the shoreline may reach 63–68°F (17–20°C), although open water remains cooler. As autumn approaches, cooling air and shorter daylight quickly reduce the temperature to around 55°F (13°C) or below.
Swimming in Sechelt Inlet is allowed and can be enjoyable during the summer months, especially in the more protected coves where the water warms up more quickly. The inlet’s calm surface and scenic mountain backdrop attract kayakers and swimmers seeking peaceful, natural surroundings. However, even in midsummer, the water can feel chilly, and extended swimming may be uncomfortable without a wetsuit. Most visitors choose short dips or swim close to shore on sunny days. The best time for swimming is from late June to early September, when both air and surface temperatures are at their most favorable.
