*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sproat Lake, located on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, enjoys a milder climate compared to many northern inland lakes, which helps it warm more than some fjords or deep, glacier-fed lakes. In the early spring months, the surface water is still quite cool, often hovering around 10–11 °C (50–52 °F) in May after a long winter of cool weather and snowmelt. By late June, on sun-exposed days and in shallower bays, surface temperatures may reach approximately 14–16 °C (57–61 °F). During the peak of summer, in July and August, the shallow shoreline areas warmed by sunshine and calm waters can reach about 17–19 °C (63–66 °F) or slightly higher in very sheltered spots. As autumn approaches and air temperatures decline, the water cools again toward 12–13 °C (54–55 °F) by September and lower still by October.
Swimming in Sproat Lake is allowed and is a recognised recreational activity in areas like the provincial park beaches, where people go for a dip, paddle-board or launch kayaks. Because the water warms enough in summer for comfortable short swims, it enjoys popularity among campers and day-visitors. However, one should keep in mind that even in summer the deeper or shaded parts of the lake remain cooler, and prolonged swimming in cooler water can lead to brisk sensations or fatigue. For the best experience, swimming in shallow, sun-exposed margins during the warmest months (mid-July to early September) is advisable, and swimmers should always use caution and stay within comfortable limits.
