*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Alberni Inlet on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, is a long fjord-like inlet stretching inland from Barkley Sound to the town of Port Alberni. Because it is open to tidal exchange and receives cold flow from the Pacific Ocean and nearby streams, the surface water temperatures remain quite cool all year. In winter months the water averages around 7–8 °C (45–46 °F). During spring, temperatures increase gradually to about 10–12 °C (50–54 °F) by May and June. At its warmest, in the midsummer months of July and August, the inlet may reach only around 13–15 °C (55–59 °F) in sheltered bays. By autumn the temperature falls again into the range of roughly 10–11 °C (50–52 °F).
Swimming in Alberni Inlet is permitted, but the water conditions mean it is far from ideal for casual recreational swimming. The low water temperatures—even at their warmest—make extended periods in the water uncomfortable and raise the risk of cold-water effects such as hypothermia. Combined with potential tidal currents and marine traffic in the inlet, swimmers are advised to proceed with caution. Instead, the inlet is more commonly used for boating, kayaking, scenic exploration and marine wildlife observation. For those seeking warmer, more comfortable swimming experiences, inland lakes or shallow, sun-warmed bays in the region may offer better alternatives.
