*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Stave Lake, located in the Fraser Valley region of British Columbia near Mission, is a large reservoir formed by the Stave Falls and Ruskin dams. Surrounded by forested hills and mountain terrain, the lake’s temperature is influenced by its depth and inflows from cool mountain streams. In early spring, when snowmelt begins, the water is still quite cold, averaging around 39–45°F (4–7°C). As the season progresses into late May and June, surface temperatures rise gradually to about 52–59°F (11–15°C). The warmest period occurs in midsummer, from July through August, when the upper layers of the lake can reach 63–68°F (17–20°C), particularly near the shoreline and in shallow bays. By late September, cooling air and shorter days cause temperatures to drop back below 55°F (13°C).
Swimming in Stave Lake is allowed, though it is less common than in nearby recreational lakes because the water remains fairly cool and the terrain can be rugged. The lake’s vast size and variable depth mean that temperatures can differ significantly between surface and deeper waters. While short swims and wading are possible on warm summer days, the cold water and lack of developed beach areas make extended swimming less comfortable. The best time for swimming is during July and August, when air temperatures are high and the surface water is at its most pleasant.
