*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Toba Inlet is a remote, deep fjord on the coast of British Columbia, characterized by steep, rugged mountains and glacial meltwater. As a cold, high-latitude marine environment, its water temperatures are a significant factor for any activity. In the peak summer months, surface temperatures can be relatively mild in sheltered areas, occasionally reaching up to 21∘C to 22∘C (70F to 71.6F), particularly near the surface. However, the deep fjord water remains fundamentally cold. In the winter, the surface cools dramatically, with temperatures likely dropping to the range of 7∘C to 10∘C (45F to 50∘F).
Swimming is generally permitted in Toba Inlet, but it is considered an intrepid activity primarily undertaken by visitors to specialized wilderness resorts in the area. These resorts sometimes advertise ocean swimming and provide access from docks, confirming it is allowed. However, the extreme cold of the water column carries a high risk of cold shock and hypothermia even in summer, making extended casual swimming unsafe. Furthermore, the inlet is remote, with no official lifeguarded areas, and has strong tidal currents, especially near the mouth. Thus, any swimming is strictly at one's own risk, and caution is necessary due to the rugged wilderness environment and the occasional presence of large marine vessels.
