*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Alouette Lake, located in Golden Ears Provincial Park in British Columbia, is a large mountain reservoir surrounded by forested slopes and scenic peaks. Because it is fed by cool streams and mountain runoff, its water remains relatively cold for much of the year. In early spring, the surface temperature is typically around 39–46°F (4–8°C) as snowmelt flows in from higher elevations. By late May and June, as the weather warms, the water rises to about 52–59°F (11–15°C). During midsummer, from July through August, surface temperatures in shallower areas near the shore can reach 63–68°F (17–20°C) on sunny days, though the deeper parts of the lake stay significantly cooler. In autumn, cooling air quickly drops the water back below 55°F (13°C) by late September.

Swimming is allowed and quite popular at Alouette Lake, especially in designated areas such as the beach near the Alouette Lake picnic grounds. The water is clear and refreshing during summer, offering good conditions for short swims, paddling, or boating. However, due to its depth and cold inflows, the lake can feel chilly even in warm weather, and extended swimming may lead to rapid heat loss. The best time to swim is between late June and early September, when surface temperatures and air conditions are most comfortable.
