Queen Elizabeth II Reservoir, part of the Thames Water supply network in Surrey, is a large, deep body of water whose temperatures vary with the seasons. In spring surface temperatures typically sit around 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) as the water slowly warms; summer sees the warmest readings, commonly 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), occasionally reaching the mid-20s °C (mid-70s °F) in hot spells. Autumn brings cooling back to roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F), and winter surface temperatures often fall to about 2–7 °C (36–45 °F), with colder layers at depth year-round.
Swimming at the reservoir is not permitted because it is an operational drinking-water facility and presents safety risks: deep, cold water, steep or slippery banks, submerged structures and variable currents can cause cold shock and drowning. Access is managed to protect water quality and infrastructure. Visitors more commonly enjoy the surrounding towpaths and riverside walks, or travel a short distance to nearby Walton-on-Thames and Weybridge for cafes and pubs, and to historic sites such as Hampton Court Palace and local parks for leisure.
