** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Surface temperatures at Queen Mother Reservoir vary through the year. In spring (March–May) the water usually sits between about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) as the body of water slowly warms. Summer months (June–August) bring the warmest surface readings, commonly 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) and occasionally a little higher during heatwaves. Autumn (September–November) sees a gradual cooling back to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), while in winter (December–February) temperatures often fall to around 2–6 °C (36–43 °F), with the deepest water remaining cold year-round.
Open swimming is generally not allowed at Queen Mother Reservoir because it is a working drinking-water reservoir and access is restricted for safety and water-quality protection. Cold-water shock, hidden depths, shoreline infrastructure and boat activity also make unsupervised swimming hazardous. Occasionally, organised, supervised activities may be permitted with prior authorisation, but casual bathing is prohibited. The reservoir sits within easy reach of attractions such as Thorpe Park, Windsor Great Park and Virginia Water, and local riverside and country walks around Chertsey and Staines make the area popular for visitors and walkers.
