Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Poulaphouca Reservoir, often known as the Blessington Lakes, is Ireland's largest man-made lake, created for hydroelectric power and water supply to Dublin. As with most inland Irish waters, the temperature remains quite cool. While exact readings vary, the surface temperature generally ranges from a chilly winter low of about 4∘C to 7∘C (39∘F to 45∘F), rising to a peak of roughly 14∘C to 17∘C (57∘F to 63∘F) during the summer months.
Swimming is strictly prohibited in the Poulaphouca Reservoir by its owners, the Electricity Supply Board (ESB). This ban is due to significant dangers unique to a man-made reservoir, including deep, fast-flowing currents, rapidly changing water levels (as water is drawn for power generation), and underwater hazards such as submerged tree stumps, old walls, and uneven ground from the drowned valley. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy other activities, such as kayaking, sailing, and walking the scenic Blessington Greenway or exploring the nearby Russborough House and the stunning landscape of the Wicklow Mountains National Park.
