*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
North Park Lake in Allegheny County experiences typical temperate-latitude seasonal swings in water temperature. In winter the lake commonly approaches freezing at the surface, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and may ice over on cold spells. Spring sees a steady rise, with surface temperatures often in the 40–60°F (4–16°C) band as the water mixes and warms. During summer, surface temperatures usually peak between about 68–78°F (20–26°C) on warm days, though shallow bays can briefly climb higher; deeper water remains cooler due to thermal stratification. In autumn the lake cools back into the 50–60°F (10–16°C) range before winter turnover.
Swimming in North Park Lake is generally not permitted as a regular recreational activity. The park’s management discourages open-water swimming because there are no lifeguards, visibility and currents can be unpredictable, submerged hazards exist, and water quality can vary—factors that raise safety and liability concerns. Instead the lake is used for boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing, while supervised swimming is offered at designated pools or facilities elsewhere in the park system. For the most current rules and seasonal advisories, consult the park authorities before planning any water contact.
