*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Leesville Lake in eastern Ohio typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of mid-latitude reservoirs. Surface water temperatures in winter commonly hover near freezing, roughly 33–40°F (1–4°C). In spring the lake warms to about 45–60°F (7–16°C) as air temperatures rise and runoff subsides. Peak summer surface temperatures are usually in the upper 60s to upper 70s Fahrenheit, roughly 20–27°C, with the warmest pockets sometimes reaching around 80°F (27°C) on heat waves. During fall the surface cools again to a range near 50–65°F (10–18°C) as nights lengthen and thermal mixing becomes more common. Deeper water remains colder year-round and stratification or turnover can create sudden temperature changes at depth.
Swimming at Leesville Lake is generally allowed because the reservoir is used for public recreation, including boating, fishing and swimming, but conditions vary by shoreline and local rules. There are typically no lifeguards, and swimmers should heed posted signs, avoid boat channels and ramps, and be aware of cold-water shock in spring and fall or sudden depth changes. Access points and small beaches may be more suitable for casual swimming, while caution and flotation devices are recommended where currents, boat traffic or steep drop-offs exist.
