*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Onkivesi, located in North Savo, Finland, lies between the towns of Iisalmi and Lapinlahti and is part of the Iisalmi watercourse that connects several clean and scenic lakes. It is a long, irregular lake with many islands and bays that influence local water temperature. In spring, after the ice melts in late April or early May, the surface water is still cold at about 4–7 °C (39–45 °F). During early summer, it warms gradually to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, the warmest period, Onkivesi usually reaches 18–21 °C (64–70 °F). On sunny, calm days, shallow areas may briefly reach 22–23 °C (72–73 °F). By late September, the water cools again below 10 °C (50 °F), and the lake freezes typically by late November.
Swimming in Lake Onkivesi is allowed and common during the summer months. The water is generally clean and suitable for bathing, and several beaches and small piers around the lake make access easy. Locals and visitors enjoy swimming, rowing, and relaxing by the water, especially in July when conditions are warmest. Although the water remains cool compared with southern lakes, its clarity and natural surroundings make it ideal for peaceful outdoor recreation.
