*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Nant-y-moch Reservoir, located high in the Cambrian Mountains near Pumlumon, is a remote and essential part of the Rheidol Hydro Electric Scheme. As a working reservoir, it is extremely dangerous for swimming, and unauthorised access to the water is prohibited by the operators due to significant safety hazards. The water is often very deep and cold throughout the year, with temperatures in winter likely dropping towards 4∘C to 8∘C (39∘F to 46∘F). Even in the peak of summer, surface temperatures in this exposed, high-altitude location rarely exceed 14∘C to 17∘C (57∘F to 63∘F), creating a constant risk of cold water shock.
The reservoir's dramatic surroundings make it a popular spot for fishing (with a permit) and mountain biking, with trails offering commanding views over the water. Nearby attractions include the Bwlch Nant yr Arian Visitor Centre, famous for its daily Red Kite feeding, the spectacular Devil's Bridge Falls, and the Vale of Rheidol Railway, a narrow-gauge steam train that runs through the picturesque valley to the coastal town of Aberystwyth.
