Bomere Pool’s water is typically cool through much of the year. Seasonal surface temperatures commonly run about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) in spring, 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) in summer on warmer years, 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) in autumn and around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) in winter. Actual temperatures vary with air temperature, depth and recent weather, and colder pockets can persist below the surface even in summer.
Swimming is not provided with lifeguards or formal bathing facilities and is generally not officially permitted; the site is subject to private ownership, conservation considerations and safety risks such as sudden depth changes, submerged hazards and variable water quality. For that reason local authorities and land managers tend to discourage swimming, although some experienced wild swimmers visit at their own risk.
