*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Llyn Trawsfynydd is a large artificial lake in Snowdonia National Park, created in the 1920s to supply water for a nearby hydroelectric station. Surrounded by rugged hills and open moorland, it lies at a relatively high altitude, which keeps the water cool throughout the year. In winter, the surface temperature often falls to around 3–5 °C (37–41 °F), while in spring it gradually rises to about 8–10 °C (46–50 °F). During the summer months, the lake can reach 14–16 °C (57–61 °F) on calm, sunny days, though deeper sections remain much colder. By autumn, temperatures drop again toward 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), reflecting the typical mountain climate of North Wales.
Swimming in Llyn Trawsfynydd is officially permitted, though the water remains cold even in summer and can change depth sharply. It is most suitable for experienced open-water swimmers or those wearing wetsuits. The lake’s clean water and scenic backdrop make it popular for kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Safety precautions are advised because the wind can create small waves on open stretches. Surrounding walking and cycling paths offer excellent views of the lake and the nearby peaks of Snowdonia. Other attractions close by include Coed y Brenin Forest Park and the historic village of Trawsfynydd itself.
