** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Keeper's Pond, officially known as Pen-ffordd-goch Pond, is a picturesque, man-made lake perched high on the hill between Blaenavon and Abergavenny in South Wales. As a popular wild swimming spot, its water temperature is subject to extreme seasonal variation. In winter, the exposed location and altitude mean the water is severely cold, often just a few degrees above freezing, perhaps ranging from 2∘C to 7∘C (36∘F to 45∘F). Even in the height of summer, the water remains invigoratingly cool, rarely rising above 18∘C (64∘F), requiring caution to avoid cold-water shock and hypothermia.
Swimming at Keeper's Pond is generally permitted as a wild swimming location, which means there are no lifeguards on duty, and participants swim at their own risk. It's renowned for its easy entry points and lack of strong currents, but swimmers are strongly advised to adhere to wild swimming safety principles, such as never swimming alone and entering the water slowly. As part of the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site, nearby attractions include the Big Pit National Coal Museum and the Blaenavon Ironworks, offering a wealth of history to explore after a bracing dip.
