*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Vyrnwy, an expansive reservoir created by a Victorian dam in Mid Wales, offers a dramatic and beautiful setting but is not an open swimming location. As a drinking water supply, the lake has strict prohibitions against swimming to protect water quality, and the sheer depth and hidden machinery near the dam present significant safety hazards. Due to its size and location, the water temperature remains consistently cold throughout the year. Even in the peak summer months, surface temperatures typically only range from 12∘C to 16∘C (54∘F to 61∘F), while in winter the temperature plummets to single figures, often between 4∘C and 8∘C (39∘F to 46∘F).
While swimming is strictly forbidden, visitors can enjoy the water for supervised activities such as kayaking, sailing, and paddleboarding at the designated adventure centre. The area is also a major attraction for nature lovers, surrounded by a large RSPB nature reserve which offers fantastic birdwatching and numerous walking and cycling trails. Other nearby points of interest include the stunning Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall, one of the Seven Wonders of Wales, and the historic Powis Castle and Garden to the east.
