Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Chelmarsh Reservoir’s water temperature follows a typical temperate pattern, cooling through autumn and winter and warming in late spring and summer. Surface temperatures in winter commonly sit around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F), rising through spring to roughly 8–13 °C (46–55 °F). In warmer spells during June to August the reservoir can reach about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) at the surface, while autumn typically sees a decline back toward the single digits, around 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). Deeper water stays colder year-round, so actual conditions vary by depth, time of day and weather.
Open water swimming at Chelmarsh is generally not permitted because it is a working reservoir and restrictions are in place for safety and water quality; access is directed toward organised activities such as sailing and angling run by local clubs. Visitors who want outdoor water experiences nearby often head to supervised lidos or designated swim events in the region. The reservoir is close to the market town of Bridgnorth, the Severn Valley Railway and the industrial heritage of Ironbridge Gorge, making the area attractive for walking, birdwatching and day trips as well as water-sport spectating.
