** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Chamberlain Lake in northern Maine typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of inland lakes in the region. Surface temperatures in spring often sit between about 40–55°F (4–13°C) as the water comes out of winter stratification. In summer—June through August—surface readings commonly reach roughly 65–75°F (18–24°C) on warm days, with the warmest water usually in shallower bays. By early fall the lake cools back to approximately 45–60°F (7–16°C), and in winter the water near the surface drops to near freezing, around 32–35°F (0–2°C), with ice cover likely for several months in colder years. Deeper water remains colder year-round and can be markedly cooler than surface measurements.
Swimming is generally possible at Chamberlain Lake because it is a public waterbody used for recreation; people do swim there during the warmer months when surface temperatures are comfortable. However, formal swimming facilities and lifeguards are uncommon, shoreline access can be limited by private property, and cold-water hazards persist even in summer—sudden drops in temperature with depth, underwater currents, and remote conditions make caution important. Visitors should check local access rules, observe posted signs, wear flotation if appropriate, and be mindful of changing weather and water temperatures.
