** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lough Shark is a small and quiet freshwater lake located in County Fermanagh, surrounded by gentle hills, meadows, and patches of forest that create a peaceful rural atmosphere. Like many inland lakes in Northern Ireland, its water remains cool for much of the year due to the temperate maritime climate. In winter, the temperature usually drops to around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F), gradually rising in spring as daylight increases. During the warmest months of July and August, the surface water can reach about 15–17 °C (59–63 °F), offering refreshing but still chilly conditions for swimming. By autumn, the water cools again to near 10 °C (50 °F), following the natural seasonal rhythm of the region’s lakes.
Swimming in Lough Shark is allowed, though it tends to be an activity for more experienced or hardy swimmers who are comfortable in colder natural waters. The lake is clear and calm but relatively deep in places, so wetsuits are often recommended outside of midsummer. It’s a popular spot for local anglers and those seeking solitude away from busy tourist sites. The surrounding countryside offers pleasant walking routes and is not far from the larger lakes of Lough Erne and the scenic Marble Arch Caves, making it a peaceful addition to the area’s natural attractions.
