Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Craigavon Lake, actually a pair of man-made balancing lakes in Craigavon City Park, has water temperatures that fluctuate significantly with the seasons. During the winter, the average temperature typically drops to a chilly 8∘C (46∘F), while in the peak of summer, surface temperatures can rise to a more moderate 15∘C to 18∘C (59∘F to 64∘F). These temperatures make it generally unsuitable for casual, unmanaged swimming year-round.
Unregulated swimming in the lakes is discouraged and generally prohibited by the local council due to various safety risks. These hazards include the cold water shock effect, especially outside of peak summer, and the potential presence of blue-green algae blooms, which occur naturally and can be toxic during warmer months. However, the lakes are a popular hub for managed water sports activities through the Craigavon Watersports Centre, offering kayaking, wakeboarding, and sailing. Other nearby attractions include the Craigavon Golf and Ski Centre and the scenic Oxford Island Nature Reserve on the shores of Lough Neagh.
