*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Silent Valley Reservoir, nestled high in the Mourne Mountains, is a significant source of drinking water, and its temperature reflects the cool, mountain environment. While precise public data for the reservoir itself is limited, temperatures in such deep, elevated bodies of water are considerably colder than coastal waters. A general seasonal range would see the water reach lows near 4∘C to 7∘C (39∘F to 45∘F) in winter, and only occasionally exceeding 12∘C to 15∘C (54∘F to 59∘F) on the surface during peak summer months.
Swimming and other water activities are strictly forbidden in Silent Valley Reservoir. The primary reason for this prohibition is that the reservoir supplies public drinking water, and any recreational activity could compromise water quality and hygiene standards. Furthermore, reservoirs pose severe safety hazards, including very sudden changes in depth, strong underwater currents, hidden mechanical equipment, and the risk of cold water shock due to the consistently low temperatures. Visitors instead enjoy the stunning scenery through various walking trails, including those that lead to the Ben Crom Dam and run alongside sections of the famous Mourne Wall.
