Loch Raven Reservoir in Maryland experiences a typical mid-Atlantic seasonal temperature pattern. In winter the surface often nears freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring brings a warming trend with surface temperatures commonly in the 40–65°F range (4–18°C) as the water mixes. By summer the sun warms the upper layers to about 70–80°F (21–27°C) at the surface, though deeper water can remain much cooler, often 45–55°F (7–13°C) because of thermal stratification. In autumn the surface usually cools back into the 50–70°F bracket (10–21°C) as the reservoir begins to overturn and re‑mix. These ranges are approximate and vary with weather, time of day, and depth.
