*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Staffordshire
Aqualate Mere, the largest natural lake in the Midlands near Newport in Staffordshire, is relatively shallow, which affects its seasonal water temperatures. In winter the surface typically falls to around 2–6 °C (36–43 °F). Spring sees a gradual rise, roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), while summer surface temperatures commonly reach 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) on warmer days. In autumn the water cools back to about 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). Because the mere is shallow and exposed, temperatures can change quickly with the weather and wind.
Formal swimming at Aqualate is generally discouraged and may be restricted because the site is an important nature reserve and lacks lifeguards or designated bathing facilities. Cold, fast-changing water, soft silty bottoms and submerged plants also increase safety risks. Visitors are advised to follow local signage and guidance from land managers. The area remains attractive for walking, birdwatching and picnics, and nearby attractions include the market town of Newport and the wider Staffordshire countryside, with trail networks and green spaces such as Cannock Chase within easy driving distance.
