Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Livojärvi, often referred to as the Riviera of Lapland, is renowned for its extensive sandy beaches and remarkably clear water, making it a highly popular destination for swimming and recreation in Finnish Lapland. Swimming is fully permitted across all public shoreline areas, protected by Finland’s Everyman’s Rights, which grants the right to access and use natural waters responsibly. Designated beaches, such as Säikänsalmi, are popular due to the excellent water quality and gently sloping sandy bottoms, providing safe access for all bathers during the summer months.
The water temperature of Livojärvi is typical of northern lakes, characterized by cold conditions for a major part of the year. The lake is frozen for an extended period, generally from late October to May, with the water under the thick ice maintaining a temperature between a cold 0∘C and 4∘C. The main season for comfortable swimming is the short Arctic summer, peaking in July. During this time, the large, shallow bays allow the surface water to reach a maximum range of 17∘C to 22∘C. Outside of July, the water cools rapidly, mainly attracting those who practice cold-water or winter swimming.
