*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Joukamojärvi, located in North Ostrobothnia near Kuusamo, is a medium-sized freshwater lake surrounded by forests and gently rolling hills. It is part of the Kitka–Oulanka watershed and is known for its clean, cool water and peaceful natural setting. Because of its northern location, the water temperature remains relatively low for most of the year. In spring, after the ice melts in late May, the surface water temperature is about 4–7 °C (39–45 °F). During early summer, it rises to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, the warmest month, Joukamojärvi typically reaches 17–20 °C (63–68 °F). On hot days, shallow shores may briefly warm to 21–22 °C (70–72 °F). By September, the temperature drops below 10 °C (50 °F), and the lake usually freezes again in November.
Swimming in Lake Joukamojärvi is allowed and popular among locals and visitors during the short northern summer. The water is clear and safe for bathing, and small beaches and piers around the lake provide good access for swimming. While the water can feel cool, especially early in the season, it offers a refreshing and clean experience typical of Lapland’s and northern Finland’s pristine lakes.
