** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Little Green Lake in Minnesota typically follows seasonal temperature patterns common to small northern lakes. In spring the surface usually warms from roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice melts and the water mixes. By summer, surface temperatures often reach about 68–80°F (20–27°C), with shallow bays occasionally running slightly warmer. In autumn the lake cools back to roughly 45–65°F (7–18°C) as the surface loses heat and begins to turnover, while winter conditions bring ice cover and water just above freezing beneath the ice, generally around 32–39°F (0–4°C). Deeper water remains colder through the warmer months, so actual temperature depends on location and depth within the lake.
Swimming is generally allowed in Minnesota lakes such as Little Green Lake, but use depends on local rules, current water quality and safety conditions. Recreational swimming is most comfortable in the warm summer months when surface temperatures exceed about 70°F (21°C); water cooler than about 60°F (15°C) increases risk of cold shock and hypothermia. Authorities may close access or post advisories for algal blooms, elevated bacteria, hazardous weather or unsafe ice, and some properties restrict access if privately owned. Visitors should observe posted notices, exercise caution around deep or weedy areas, and consider conditions before entering the water.
