Chisago Lake, part of the Chisago Lakes chain in eastern Minnesota, experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in surface water temperature. In winter the lake typically freezes and surface temperatures hover around 32°F (0°C), with liquid water beneath the ice often remaining just above freezing. Spring thaw brings a warming trend, with surface temperatures commonly rising from roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C) between March and May. Peak summer months usually produce the warmest water, often in the 68–78°F range (20–26°C) in June through August and occasionally reaching the low 80s°F (27–28°C) during hot spells. As autumn arrives, temperatures fall again, generally cooling to about 50–65°F (10–18°C) through September to November.
Swimming at Chisago Lake is generally permitted where public access points or private shorelines exist because the lake is a recreational water body; however, practical availability depends on season and conditions.
