*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
North Center Lake, like many inland lakes in central Minnesota, experiences pronounced seasonal swings in water temperature. In spring the surface typically runs cold, often in the 40–55°F range (4–13°C) as snowmelt and cool air keep the water chilled. By midsummer the surface commonly warms into the mid-60s to mid-70s °F (18–24°C), and on hot sunny stretches can approach the low 80s °F (around 27°C). In autumn the lake cools back into the 50–60°F range (10–16°C) as air temperatures fall. During winter the lake usually freezes or holds ice cover and surface temperatures are at or below 32°F (0°C); deeper pockets of water, where the lake is sufficiently deep, can remain near 39°F (4°C) year-round due to water density.
Swimming is generally possible at North Center Lake during the ice-free months when the surface temperatures are warm enough for recreation, and many people find conditions comfortable once water reaches roughly 70°F (21°C) or higher. Whether swimming is allowed depends on access and local rules: public beaches and access points normally permit swimming, but private shoreline, posted prohibitions, poor water-quality advisories (for example from harmful algal blooms), or unsafe conditions can restrict or discourage bathing. Ice swimming is unsafe unless organized and supervised with proper precautions.
