*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Zumbra’s water temperatures follow the familiar seasonal pattern of Minnesota lakes and vary with depth, wind and recent weather. In spring the surface usually ranges from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice melts and the water slowly warms. By summer surface temperatures commonly reach roughly 68–80°F (20–27°C), with the warmest readings in late July and August; deeper water remains noticeably cooler. In fall the lake cools back to roughly 45–65°F (7–18°C) as air temperatures drop, and in winter the surface is at or near freezing, about 32°F (0°C), with under‑ice water typically around 32–39°F (0–4°C) except where springs or deeper basins keep slightly higher temperatures.
Swimming is generally possible during ice‑free months when public or private access exists and there are no posted advisories. Local authorities or lake associations may close beaches for safety reasons such as harmful algal blooms, high bacteria counts, hazardous weather or poor visibility; in addition, cold shoulder seasons can pose hypothermia risk even when the surface is above freezing. Winter swimming is only appropriate in controlled, supervised situations because ice and near‑freezing water present serious dangers. Always check current local water‑quality and safety notices before entering the lake.
