** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Piersons Lake, like many inland lakes in Minnesota, follows the state’s seasonal thermal pattern. In winter the lake is ice covered and water just beneath the ice typically sits near 32–39°F (0–4°C). During spring turnover surface temperatures climb through roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the ice melts and the water mixes. In summer the surface of a shallow or moderately deep lake commonly warms to about 68–76°F (20–24°C), with sheltered bays sometimes reaching the upper 70s or low 80s (25–28°C) during heat waves; deeper layers remain considerably cooler. In fall the surface cools again into the 50s–60s°F (10–16°C) range before refreezing.
Swimming is generally possible at Piersons Lake during the ice-free months provided there is public access and no official advisories in effect. Local authorities may close or discourage swimming because of bacterial contamination, algal blooms, or unsafe conditions, and private-property rules can restrict access even when water temperatures are comfortable. Ice swimming in winter is inherently risky and only advised where thickness and local protocols are confirmed. For current conditions and safety information, check local health advisories and lake access rules before entering the water.
